ELITE CHIEF OF STAFF TO UHNW INTERNATIONAL INVESTOR in City of London

City of London Full-Time On-site
1

We have an incredibly rare opportunity for an exceptional Chief of Staff to become the trusted right hand to an international entrepreneur and investor, supporting him across a highly complex combination of business, private office and family interests.

This is not a conventional corporate Chief of Staff position. Our client operates internationally across major infrastructure investments and other significant global projects, working closely with governments, investors and some exceptionally high-profile individuals. His life moves quickly, his schedule is constantly evolving and the person joining him will become part of a very small and highly trusted inner circle.

The successful candidate will ultimately become someone the Principal can trust with almost everything outside the direct management of his companies. You will represent him when he cannot be somewhere himself, make significant decisions on his behalf and gradually build an instinctive understanding of how he thinks, what matters to him and how he would approach a situation.

This is very much a character hire. Experience matters, but judgement, resilience, intelligence and integrity matter more. The Principal wants someone who has experienced real pressure, made difficult decisions, learned from mistakes and developed the confidence to take genuine ownership.

A military background would be particularly advantageous, ideally with meaningful operational or deployment experience, although equally relevant experience could have been gained within government, diplomacy, intelligence, security, investment or another highly confidential and demanding environment.

The role will be extremely varied. Alongside acting as the Principal's strategic right hand, you will oversee elements of his international private office, family requirements, properties, household teams, security, banking relationships and wider personal affairs. You will also support sophisticated due diligence and onboarding processes around individuals and organisations the Principal does business with, ensuring information is handled appropriately.

International travel will be significant. Plans can change quickly and the successful candidate must genuinely enjoy operating in a global, fast-paced environment.

Perhaps most importantly, you will need exceptional people judgement. The Principal's network includes senior government figures, major investors and internationally prominent individuals, and he needs someone who understands that the person who commands the most attention in a room is not necessarily the most important relationship to manage. Emotional intelligence, observation and an ability to read people will be absolutely fundamental.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to build something. The successful candidate will be given the autonomy and budget to help shape and build the wider private office team around them, with the potential for exceptional long-term financial reward for someone who becomes a genuinely trusted partner.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE:

  • Acting as the Principal's trusted right hand and representative across all business and private matters
  • Developing a deep understanding of his priorities, relationships and decision-making style, with the confidence to act independently on his behalf
  • Helping to design, recruit and build a high-performing international private office team
  • Overseeing household and property teams across multiple international locations
  • Overseeing private aviation requirements and managing the relationship with the Principal's aircraft management company
  • Coordinating sensitive family, security, banking and private office matters
  • Managing relationships with banks, advisers, legal teams, security providers and other trusted external partners
  • Supporting appropriate enhanced due diligence, KYC and background research around prospective counterparties and relationships
  • Producing concise, intelligent reports and briefings on complex or sensitive matters
  • Managing an exceptionally demanding and constantly evolving international schedule
  • Representing the Principal at meetings or engagements when required
  • Building trusted relationships with investors, government contacts, advisers and other senior stakeholders
  • Coordinating complex international projects involving multiple parties, jurisdictions and security considerations
  • Anticipating and owning problems before they reach the Principal
  • Creating appropriate structure, discipline and reporting across the private office without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy
  • Remaining calm, decisive and highly discreet when operating under significant pressure
  • Travelling internationally at short notice and remaining flexible around changing requirements

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Significant experience operating in a senior Chief of Staff, private office, military, diplomatic, government, security, investment or similarly ultimate-trust environment
  • Military experience, particularly operational or deployment experience, would be highly advantageous
  • Exceptional judgement, discretion and emotional intelligence
  • Demonstrable ability to make decisions independently and take accountability for the outcome
  • Naturally resilient and calm under pressure
  • Exceptional people skills and the ability to read personalities, dynamics and situations quickly
  • Confident representing a Principal with highly senior and sophisticated stakeholders
  • Strong written communication and reporting skills
  • Commercially intelligent with the ability to understand complex information quickly
  • Comfortable handling highly confidential and sensitive information
  • A genuinely hands-on mentality with no sense of hierarchy around what is or is not \"your job\"
  • Comfortable operating within a fast-moving environment where plans frequently change
  • Experience coordinating very complex international travel
  • Private aviation experience is essential
  • Comfortable travelling extensively and at short notice
  • Additional languages would be advantageous, particularly Arabic or Chinese
  • Looking for a genuinely long-term opportunity and excited by the prospect of building a team around the Principal
  • Outstanding verifiable references
