We are seeking an experienced and reliable Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to support the Oral Outpatients team. The successful candidate will work alongside Consultants, Doctors, Nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective and compassionate patient care.
Previous experience working within an Oral Surgery or Oral Theatre environment is essential
as the role requires familiarity with oral surgical procedures, clinical preparation and maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist clinicians and nursing staff during oral outpatient and oral surgical procedures.
- Prepare treatment and procedure rooms before and between patients.
- Assist with the preparation and safe handling of clinical equipment and surgical instruments.
- Support clinicians during minor oral surgical and dental procedures.
- Assist with patient preparation, positioning and reassurance before procedures.
- Monitor patients and report any concerns or changes in their condition to the appropriate clinical staff.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.
- Undertake cleaning, decontamination and preparation of clinical areas in accordance with Trust policies.
- Assist with the safe transfer and movement of patients where required.
- Ensure clinical equipment and treatment areas are appropriately stocked and ready for use.
- Dispose of clinical waste and sharps safely and in accordance with local procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with relevant NHS policies and procedures.
- Complete relevant documentation accurately and promptly.
- Work effectively as part of the wider multidisciplinary team.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working as an HCA within an NHS or healthcare setting.
- Experience in Oral Surgery, Oral Outpatients or Oral Theatre is essential.
- Experience assisting with surgical or dental procedures.
- Good understanding of infection prevention and control procedures.
- Familiarity with clinical environments, equipment and patient preparation.
- Ability to work effectively alongside Consultants, Nurses and other healthcare professionals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate and professional approach to patient care.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
- Reliable, punctual and able to adapt to a busy clinical environment.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) department.
- Experience assisting with minor oral surgery and dental procedures.
- Previous Oral Theatre experience.
- Experience with NHS outpatient services.
- Knowledge of surgical safety and infection control procedures.
