Sterile Services Technician

Are you a Sterile Services Technician with experience in post‑anaesthetic or perioperative care, looking for additional weekend work? Here at 18 Week Support, we have an exciting opportunity to support a well‑established NHS Trust in the South West area within a busy Urology service. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced theatre and recovery teams in a well‑supported, patient‑focused environment while benefiting from flexible additional sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect used surgical instruments and medical devices from clinical areas.
  • Clean and decontaminate equipment using manual and automated processes.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, and functionality.
  • Assemble and package surgical instrument sets according to specifications.
  • Sterilise instruments using steam sterilisers (autoclaves) or other approved methods.
  • Label and track instrument sets using barcode or traceability systems.
  • Store sterile equipment correctly and distribute it to operating theatres, wards, and clinics.
  • Maintain accurate records to comply with quality standards and regulations.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Report damaged equipment and arrange repairs or replacement when necessary.

Requirements

  • Registered with valid HCPC registration.
  • Current experience working within a surgical setting for a minimum of 6 months within the last 12 months.
  • Proven NHS experience.
  • Experience working within surgical wards or theatre environments is desirable.
  • Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
