This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled HGV mechanic with workshop management experience to lead the maintenance, compliance, and operational readiness of a diverse commercial fleet. The successful candidate will combine hands-on mechanical expertise with workshop leadership, ensuring vehicles and specialist equipment remain safe, compliant, and available for operational requirements.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the maintenance and repair of a mixed fleet of HGVs, vans, 4x4s, and specialist vehicles
  • Planning and managing servicing schedules, inspections, MOT preparation, and defect rectification
  • Carrying out six-weekly inspections, preventative maintenance, and reactive repairs
  • Diagnosing and resolving mechanical and vehicle defects efficiently
  • Maintaining accurate service, repair, and compliance records
  • Managing workshop housekeeping, tooling, stock control, and health & safety standards
  • Working closely with operational and transport teams to prioritise repairs and maximise fleet availability
  • Monitoring vehicle downtime and communicating repair updates effectively
  • Supporting LOLER, PAT, and compliance inspections as required
  • Driving continuous improvement and promoting a positive, solution-focused workshop culture

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience managing and maintaining commercial vehicle fleets
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in HGV Maintenance, or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills across HGVs and light commercial vehicles
  • Experience with grab, tipper, tanker, jetting, or vacuum vehicles would be advantageous
  • Excellent understanding of vehicle compliance and record-keeping requirements
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across operations, transport, and management teams
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • HGV Class C Licence (Essential)
