This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled HGV mechanic with workshop management experience to lead the maintenance, compliance, and operational readiness of a diverse commercial fleet. The successful candidate will combine hands-on mechanical expertise with workshop leadership, ensuring vehicles and specialist equipment remain safe, compliant, and available for operational requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading the maintenance and repair of a mixed fleet of HGVs, vans, 4x4s, and specialist vehicles
- Planning and managing servicing schedules, inspections, MOT preparation, and defect rectification
- Carrying out six-weekly inspections, preventative maintenance, and reactive repairs
- Diagnosing and resolving mechanical and vehicle defects efficiently
- Maintaining accurate service, repair, and compliance records
- Managing workshop housekeeping, tooling, stock control, and health & safety standards
- Working closely with operational and transport teams to prioritise repairs and maximise fleet availability
- Monitoring vehicle downtime and communicating repair updates effectively
- Supporting LOLER, PAT, and compliance inspections as required
- Driving continuous improvement and promoting a positive, solution-focused workshop culture
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience managing and maintaining commercial vehicle fleets
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in HGV Maintenance, or equivalent industry experience
- Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills across HGVs and light commercial vehicles
- Experience with grab, tipper, tanker, jetting, or vacuum vehicles would be advantageous
- Excellent understanding of vehicle compliance and record-keeping requirements
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to build strong working relationships across operations, transport, and management teams
- Full UK Driving Licence
- HGV Class C Licence (Essential)
