About the Role
You will support editorial handling of content in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders and drive content development of the journal. This dynamic role provides exposure across a broad range of topics and involves building relationships with the Editorial Board and internal teams.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop a journal development strategy for BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, aligned with overall BMC series strategy.
- Work with colleagues across the Journals group to support subject-specific strategy development at Springer Nature.
- Identify and commission reviews, collections and supplements, working with the scientific community to drive these forward.
- Oversee content handling by advising editorial board members and, where required, handling submissions directly.
- Investigate and resolve publishing or research ethics cases with support from the Research Integrity Group.
- Engage with other teams to support resolution of editorial issues and prioritize author service while maintaining editorial standards.
- Advise on editorial policy development as appropriate.
- Build strong communication with Editorial Board Members and authors, conduct calls, and contribute to board recruitment and training.
- Organize and lead Senior Board and Editorial Board meetings, both in-person and online.
- Contribute to marketing activities, develop journal website content, and raise the journal’s profile through blogs and social media.
- Attend conferences to promote the journal and develop a network within relevant fields.
- Support team culture by collaborating with colleagues and sharing expertise.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- PhD or MD level (or equivalent) in a relevant field with research experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
- Ability to critically assess manuscripts across a range of topics for novelty and scientific content.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills, balancing short-term deadlines with long-term goals.
- Previous solid editorial experience in scientific publishing is required for Senior Editor level.
