Personal Assistant Required

Our client, Karen, is looking for an experienced and supportive personal assistant to assist her both at home and in the community. This role is focused on providing encouragement, assistance, and practical support to help Karen maintain her independence and complete tasks in a timely manner. Karen has a variety of physical disabilities and requires assistance with personal care, accessing the community, and completing household tasks. She also has autism and ADHD, and she enjoys being creative, so she is looking for someone who can offer support and motivation in a friendly and understanding manner. Karen is bubbly and outgoing with a great sense of humour. She shares her home with her pet dog, who loves attention and requires regular walks. Therefore, you must be comfortable around animals and genuinely enjoy their company.

Responsibilities

  • Personal Care: Supporting Karen with tasks such as showering, hair washing, and other personal care needs as required.
  • Community Engagement: Accompanying Karen on outings to the beach, nature trails, and places of interest. Karen enjoys getting out with her dog and taking nature walks. While Karen uses walking aids, she does drive, so you may assist her in planning and enjoying these trips.
  • Shopping Assistance: Accompanying Karen to complete shopping tasks, including lifting and carrying items to avoid aggravating her back.
  • Household Tasks: Assisting with light housework, laundry, and general tidying.
  • Administrative Support: Helping Karen with reading and writing tasks, as well as providing feedback to support her in completing administrative paperwork independently.
  • Medication Management: Prompting and assisting Karen to manage her medication schedule.
  • Cooking and Baking: Joining Karen in the kitchen for cookery and baking sessions, providing assistance where needed.

Requirements

  • A friendly and understanding demeanour with a good sense of humour.
  • The ability to offer encouragement and constructive feedback, helping Karen to remain independent.
  • A genuine love of animals and willingness to walk and interact with Karen’s dog.
  • A willingness to become part of the family dynamic, engaging positively with Karen and her family members (including the dog!).
  • Physical capability to assist with lifting and carrying shopping items and supporting Karen as required.
