Role Overview

Location: London – Hybrid

Employment Type: Permanent

Responsibilities

  • Lead a collections management team: build effective teams, develop talent, direct work.
  • Recruit a diverse mix of highly qualified Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors.
  • Supervise, motivate, monitor and coach Team members, handling ongoing training, development and performance.
  • Execute the strategy for growing quality content via Topical Collections, driving results and maintaining a strategic mindset.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Collections to define strategic direction for Topical Collection launches and meet agreed targets.
  • Align with journal editors on collections planning, continuously improving processes.
  • Report results and challenges, propose solutions, and work closely with management towards team targets.
  • Support development of tools and systems to scale Collections content, utilizing data analytics and market intelligence.
  • Provide feedback to optimise delivery of Collections content on platforms, improve daily commissioning activities, and enhance submission & peer‑review efficiency.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders and the publishing team to support the needs of research communities.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential: Bachelor’s degree; proven people‑management and supervisory skills; experience managing a target‑driven team.

Excellent communication skills and relationship‑building ability.

Willingness and proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, target‑driven environment.

Detail‑oriented, strong organizational and prioritization skills.

Desirable: Experience with matrix organisational complexity.

STM publishing experience and a proven track record of content acquisition.
