You will join the editorial team of Nature Communications, a leading multidisciplinary Open Access journal. The role involves handling original research papers, overseeing peer review, making editorial decisions, and collaborating across the Nature portfolio. The position is open for an interim period to cover maternity leave and may be based in London or Pune.
Responsibilities
- Handle original research papers and work closely with other editors on manuscript selection and peer review.
- Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts with expert advice.
- Determine the representation of your subject area within the journal.
- Liaise extensively with editors at other Nature journals and with experts in the international scientific community.
- Attend conferences and visiting research institutions.
- Commission, edit reviews, and write editorial pieces.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- A PhD (or equivalent) in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases or Clinical Vaccinology.
- A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
- A passion for science and a desire to learn more across disciplines.
- Demonstrated breadth of interest in scientific research beyond your specialty.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- The ability to assess novelty, context, and implications of research across related areas.
- Willingness to travel globally to meet scientists and researchers.
Desirable
- Additional research experience.
- Significant editorial experience (encouraged for senior editor consideration).
