Commissioning Editor – London / Madrid (Hybrid)

Job Title: Commissioning Editor. Location: London or Madrid – hybrid working model. Contract type: fixed-term. Applications deadline: 5th August. Reporting to: Portfolio Senior Commissioning Editor.

About the Role

Commissioning Editors research, commission and oversee the evolution of ELT content from concept development through to delivery, ensuring alignment with publishing plans and customer value propositions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Segment strategy & publishing planning: Attend market‑specific product feedback meetings, support competition analysis, and contribute to business cases and project costing.
  • Concept development: Conduct school visits and desk research to inform concept creation, identify authors and evaluate proposals, and develop samples with stakeholders.
  • Content development & project management: Schedule projects, brief authors and contributors, oversee content quality, and provide constructive feedback to meet specifications.
  • Quality & author care: Maintain high quality standards for authors, contributors and external developers, administer contracts, and support content reuse initiatives.
  • Budget and resource responsibility: Plan external resources, manage budget phasing, and prevent over‑ or underspend.
  • Staff management: Mentor (Senior) Development Editors, support their development, and promote wellbeing and DEI considerations.
  • Personal development: Stay current on ELT/EFL issues, attend conferences, and expand industry contacts.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ELT markets, especially Pre‑Primary & Primary segments in Spain.
  • Demonstrable ELT publishing experience with a proven track record at project leadership level.
  • Background in English language teaching and awareness of diverse teaching contexts.
  • Excellent written English, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
  • Understanding of publishing technologies and content management systems.
  • Experience with new media formats; knowledge of a second language is desirable.
