Our client is a growing groundworks and civil engineering company seeking a reliable and detail–oriented Accounts Assistant to support their finance function. The role will involve day–to–day accounting tasks, with a strong focus on purchase ledger and supporting monthly accounts. Experience within construction or groundworks is advantageous but not essential.
Key Responsibilities- Purchase Ledger
- Processing supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Matching invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes
- Dealing with supplier queries and statement reconciliations
- Preparing supplier payment runs
- Assisting with bank reconciliations
- Posting journals and maintaining accurate ledgers
- Supporting monthly management accounts
- Assisting with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) returns
- Maintaining organised financial records and filing systems
- Liaising with site managers and subcontractors regarding invoices
- Assisting with payroll data preparation (hours, timesheets, etc.)
- Providing general support to the accounts team as required
- Previous experience in an accounts assistant or similar finance role
- Strong attention to detail and good numerical skills
- Knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar)
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills
- Experience within construction or groundworks
- Knowledge of CIS and subcontractor payments
