The Opportunity

We are working with an established MEP design consultancy based in Crawley who are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing design team. The consultancy works across a range of residential and commercial developments, providing complete building services design solutions from initial concept through to detailed design and construction. This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys being involved in projects from the early design stages and wants to take ownership of delivering technically sound, coordinated mechanical designs.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing full mechanical building services designs across a variety of residential and commercial projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing mechanical designs from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
  • Developing mechanical layouts, schematics and technical drawings.
  • Carrying out heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Designing HVAC systems, including ventilation, heating and cooling.
  • Designing domestic water services, including hot and cold water systems.
  • Producing pipework and ductwork layouts and sizing calculations.
  • Undertaking system pressure drop and equipment sizing calculations.
  • Producing specifications, schedules and other technical documentation.
  • Working closely with electrical engineers, architects and other design disciplines to ensure fully coordinated designs.
  • Attending project meetings and liaising with clients, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Reviewing drawings and technical information throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Providing technical support during the construction phase where required.

Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working within a Building Services / MEP design consultancy.
  • Strong experience in mechanical building services design.
  • Experience delivering designs across residential and/or commercial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems.
  • Good knowledge of relevant British Standards, CIBSE guidance and building regulations.
  • Experience producing mechanical calculations and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Revit MEP would be advantageous.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary design team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to liaise confidently with clients and other project stakeholders.

Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.
