Working with Northrop Grumman UK's Product Safety team, you will support the design, development and ongoing support of Platform Management Systems for surface ships and submarines. The role is ideal for an engineer looking to grow in functional and product safety, with strong support and mentoring opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the delivery of safety engineering activities across complex defence programmes.
- Contributing to hazard identification and safety analysis, including HAZOP, FFA, FTA, FMECA and LOPA.
- Assisting in the generation of system safety requirements and safety targets.
- Producing high‑quality safety documentation in line with company and customer standards.
- Supporting design reviews and safety committees, providing clear and evidence‑based safety arguments.
- Working collaboratively with systems, hardware, software and project teams to influence safe design outcomes.
Qualifications
- Education or experience in a safety‑related engineering environment.
- Awareness of functional and product safety standards such as IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00‑056.
- Understanding of hardware and software failure modes and their effects.
- Exposure to safety and reliability analysis techniques such as hazard analysis, FMECA or FTA.
- Ability to work effectively within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
- A degree, HND or HNC in Engineering or a safety‑related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Security Clearance
Due to the nature of our work, you must be a UK national for this clearance type and be able to gain and maintain SC (Security Check) UK Government security clearance.
