About Us
Diamond Light Source is one of the worlds most advanced scientific facilities. We are home to the UKs synchrotron light source, a giant microscope producing beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun. Probing the structure and composition of matter, our work drives innovation in everything from vaccines to nanotech. At Diamond, we are currently undertaking a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II. Diamond-II will combine a new machine and new beamlines with a comprehensive series of upgrades to optics, detectors, sample environments, sample delivery capabilities and computing, which will ultimately generate an even more brilliant light source at a higher energy.
About the Role
We now have an opportunity for a Cyber Security Engineer to implement and maintain systems and procedures to protect Diamonds assets from security threats.
Accountabilities
- Monitor IT, network, security information and event management (SIEM) systems for anomalies, and investigate incidents when they occur.
- Contribute to incident response and disaster recovery plans, participate in periodic tests to ensure effectiveness.
- Respond to vulnerabilities disclosed by threat intelligence sources including the National Cyber Security Centre, Jisc and vendors.
- Support IT helpdesk and be the focal point in responding to security-related tickets from staff and users.
- Work with helpdesk and user groups to agree process to manage services including for software patching and access management.
- Deploy and implement infrastructure or tools to appropriately manage security risks.
- Work with Diamond-wide cyber security team to develop mitigation plans for identified security risks.
About You
You will have a Degree in engineering, computing, cyber security, or equivalent qualification or relevant experience as well as the following:
- Good expertise with technical security issues and processes, including anti-virus, endpoint detection and response, intrusion prevention, server hardening.
- Experience of using Information Security Management practices and frameworks, for example ISO 27001:2013, Cyber Essentials, CIS Benchmarks.
- Experience with cyber security incident response and forensics needed following a breach.
- Experience with software patching tools and vulnerability remediation.
- Proactive approach, team player, good interpersonal communicator at all levels.
