We are working with a fast-growing technology business operating within the healthcare sector that is looking for a Legal & Privacy Lead to join the team. This is a broad, hands-on role where you’ll become the go-to person internally for legal, privacy, information governance and compliance. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and teams across the business, helping them navigate everything from commercial contracts and data protection through to regulatory compliance and information governance.

The business already has strong frameworks, processes and external specialist support in place, so this isn’t about coming in and building everything from scratch. They’re looking for someone who can take ownership of what’s there, continuously improve it and make sure legal and compliance processes actually work for the wider business. It would suit someone who enjoys working in a growing environment where things move quickly and you won’t always have a completely black-and-white answer.

What you'll be doing:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for legal, privacy, IG and compliance queries across the business
  • Providing practical, commercially minded advice to senior stakeholders and wider teams
  • Owning information governance and data privacy, including GDPR, DPIAs, ROPA and Data Subject Requests
  • Managing and improving existing compliance frameworks, policies, SOPs and internal controls
  • Identifying legal and compliance risks and putting appropriate mitigation in place
  • Supporting internal and external audits and maintaining compliance with standards including ISO 27001, GDPR, DSP Toolkit and Cyber Essentials+
  • Working with external information governance and legal specialists where required
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Managing client and supplier contracts through the full lifecycle
  • Advising across areas including commercial law, procurement, employment, privacy, AI and general corporate matters
  • Keeping the business informed of relevant legal and regulatory developments
  • Delivering training and helping teams understand their legal, privacy and compliance responsibilities

What we're looking for:

You don’t need to be someone who responds to every question with a ten-page legal opinion. They’re looking for someone pragmatic who can understand the risk, explain it clearly and help the business find a sensible way forward. You’ll ideally bring:

  • Strong experience across privacy, data protection, information governance and/or commercial legal matters
  • Good working knowledge of GDPR and wider data protection requirements
  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • The confidence to operate as a trusted legal and compliance advisor to senior stakeholders
  • Experience working in a regulated environment; healthcare, healthtech or another highly regulated sector would be particularly relevant
  • A practical and commercial approach to risk
  • The ability to work independently and make decisions without needing significant oversight
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex legal issues in plain English
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to challenge when needed

You’ll be joining a purpose-led, growing technology business where legal and privacy are genuinely important to how the organisation operates. There’s plenty of scope to take ownership, influence how things are done and make the role your own as the company continues to grow. Relevant professional qualifications can also be supported for the right person.
