Tower House is a riverside restaurant, bar and garden in the heart of Richmond, from the team behind Gold in Notting Hill. Set across two floors of a beautifully restored riverside building, Tower House combines a warm, characterful dining room with an open-fire kitchen, cocktail bar and a spectacular 100-cover riverside garden overlooking the Thames. Our food is Mediterranean-inspired, seasonal and designed for sharing, with a strong focus on vegetables, fire cooking and great produce. Alongside our restaurant trade, we host private dining, group bookings and events throughout the year.

We are looking for an experienced and driven Assistant General Manager to join our team and play a key role in the continued success of Tower House. Working closely with the General Manager, you will be their right hand in the day-to-day running of the business, helping to drive standards, support the team and ensure the operation runs smoothly and efficiently. This is a genuinely hands-on role for someone who leads from the front, enjoys being on the floor and understands that great hospitality comes from getting the details right. Equally, you should be commercially minded and comfortable looking beyond the day-to-day service, supporting the GM with financial performance, labour management, cost control and the overall health of the business. We are looking for someone solid, reliable and proactive, who takes ownership, follows things through and can be trusted to keep the operation moving. Above all, you will be an ambassador for Tower House, representing the venue with confidence, warmth and genuine passion for hospitality.

Responsibilities:

  • Take an active role in the day-to-day running of the restaurant, bar and garden, leading from the floor during lunch and dinner services.
  • Support the General Manager across all areas of the business, acting as a trusted second-in-command and stepping up to lead the operation in their absence.
  • Work closely with the GM on the financial performance of the business, including weekly sales, labour costs, GP, stock control, purchasing and wastage.
  • Monitor departmental performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability and the guest experience.
  • Manage labour effectively, including rotas, forecasting, productivity and daily adjustments in line with business levels.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the team, ensuring consistent standards of service, training and employee engagement.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management and the ongoing development of the team.
  • Maintain excellent operational standards across the venue, including health and safety, food safety, maintenance and general presentation.
  • Take ownership of daily administration, cashing up, stock takes and operational procedures.
  • Work alongside the Head of Departments to ensure strong communication and consistency across all areas of the business.
  • Be a visible ambassador for Tower House, setting the tone through your attitude, standards and approach to both guests and colleagues.
  • Build strong relationships with guests, becoming a familiar and trusted face of the venue.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a senior restaurant management role, ideally as an Assistant General Manager or Restaurant Manager in a similar environment.
  • A naturally hands-on attitude. Someone who is happiest leading from the floor and supporting the team rather than managing from an office.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a good understanding of restaurant financials, including labour, GP, stock control and cost management.
  • Solid organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise and follow things through.
  • A reliable, calm and confident presence, someone the GM and wider team can genuinely depend on.
  • Excellent people skills, with the ability to lead by example, motivate others and build positive working relationships.
  • A genuine passion for hospitality, food, wine and drink.
  • A natural ambassador for the business, with an eye for detail and a commitment to delivering great guest experiences.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with systems such as Toast and SevenRooms is desirable but not essential.
