Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and organised Charity Shop Manager to oversee the daily operations of our retail shop. This role is responsible for maximising sales, managing volunteers, and ensuring the shop provides a welcoming and positive experience for customers while supporting the charity’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the shop, ensuring it is clean, safe, and well-presented
- Manage stock donations, including sorting, pricing, and displaying items effectively
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and retail standards
- Handle cash, operate the till, and complete daily financial reconciliations
Sales & Performance
- Maximise income through effective merchandising and pricing strategies
- Monitor sales performance and implement improvements where needed
- Organise promotions, seasonal displays, and special sales events
Volunteer Management
- Recruit, train, and support a team of volunteers
- Create staff/volunteer rotas to ensure adequate shop coverage
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating team environment
Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service and ensure a welcoming atmosphere
- Handle customer enquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally
Administration
- Maintain accurate records of sales, donations, and Gift Aid (if applicable)
- Liaise with the charity’s head office or regional management
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting procedures are followed
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in retail, customer service, or a supervisory role
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, including volunteers
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic numeracy and IT skills
