Frontier Economics is an economics consultancy that tackles the big questions facing governments, businesses and society. We help our clients to analyse and understand their markets and to formulate strategies based on sound economics. The methods and models we use are often complex, but our advice is always succinct, clear and honest. We advise across sectors and countries and we are one of the largest economic consultancies in Europe with more than 350 Economists based in our offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Cologne, Dublin, London, Madrid, Paris and Prague. Owned entirely by our staff, our business attracts the best people and the most interesting work. We go beyond the numbers to find out what's really going on. Our clients enjoy objective advice, clearly expressed. With our help, they make better decisions and get better results.

About the role

Our PhD/Experienced Track offers entry into the second year of the two-year Graduate Analyst programme for candidates with a PhD in an economics-focused discipline or equivalent relevant experience. You will take on responsibility more quickly, while benefiting from training, mentoring and support. You will apply your existing analytical experience to varied consulting questions, developing your commercial perspective, judgement and ability to turn rigorous analysis into clear recommendations.

What you'll be doing

  • Apply economic theory, empirical techniques and advanced analysis to real-world client problems.
  • Work with complex data and models, checking assumptions, robustness and interpretation.
  • Help define ambiguous client questions and design proportionate analytical approaches.
  • Draw on research and evidence to form well-reasoned, defensible conclusions.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to colleagues and clients.
  • Take ownership of workstreams, manage deadlines and raise risks or uncertainties proactively.
  • Challenge assumptions constructively and respond to feedback.
  • Collaborate across project teams, offices and wider Frontier initiatives.
  • Given your experience, we will expect you to bring independent thinking and initiative, while recognising when to seek input and drawing on the expertise of others.
  • Technology, including generative AI, may support research, coding, analysis, drafting and quality assurance. You should be ready to use it effectively, critically and responsibly, checking outputs and remaining accountable for the quality of your work.

What you'll get out of it

Substantial economic consulting experience on a range of projects. Structured training and mentoring alongside earlier responsibility. Opportunities to strengthen your client communication and commercial judgement. Exposure to senior colleagues and potential for faster progression through the Analyst pathway. A collaborative, supportive environment that values different perspectives and constructive challenge.

What we're looking for

You will have or be working towards a PhD in an economics-focused discipline, or have equivalent relevant professional experience, alongside a strong academic foundation in economics. You will also need to be fluent in the language of the office to which you are applying, except Brussels, where English is sufficient. Beyond these requirements, we are interested in how you think, approach problems and learn.

You may be someone who has:

  • Strong microeconomic reasoning and confidence applying economics to practical questions.
  • Experience with advanced analytical and empirical methods.
  • The ability to clarify uncertain problems and identify the evidence that matters.
  • Critical thinking, sound judgement and a willingness to challenge assumptions.
  • Ownership of work and the ability to plan, prioritise and communicate risks.
  • Clear communication of complex ideas to non-specialist audiences.
  • Collaboration, intellectual curiosity and openness to feedback.
  • You should be confident using Excel and have experience of analytical tools such as R, or equivalent tools relevant to your background.
  • We value a readiness to engage with new technology, including AI, critically and responsibly; extensive experience of any particular AI tool is not required.
  • The relevant academic or experience route and language requirements are essential.
  • We welcome varied backgrounds and do not expect every candidate to have developed every other skill to the same degree.

We want everyone to have an equal opportunity to join Frontier and develop their career here. We are committed to creating an inclusive working environment and to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in all its forms.
