The Role
We are seeking a Mechanically Biased Maintenance Engineer (70% Mech / 30% Elec) to join an established manufacturing business in Leeds. This is a hands‑on heavy mechanical role working across both workshop and production machinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance, with a strong focus on mechanical plant, conveyors, presses and traditional workshop equipment, rather than highly automated FMCG lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across all plant and workshop equipment.
- Respond efficiently to mechanical breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Fault‑find, repair and maintain heavy mechanical equipment.
- Maintain and repair conveyors, presses, mixers, gearboxes, shafts, bearings and drive systems.
- Work on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting rams, actuators and valves.
- Conduct basic electrical fault finding, including motors, drives and control panels.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and small engineering projects.
- Assist in installation, alignment and calibration of mechanical plant.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety standards.
- Work independently and as part of a small engineering team to support production objectives.
Minimum Requirements
- Mechanically biased Maintenance Engineer with experience in heavy manufacturing or workshop environments.
- Strong mechanical fault‑finding skills.
- Basic electrical knowledge (motors, drives and control panels).
- Apprentice training or time‑served preferred.
- Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices.
