About the Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager to take ownership of a well-established fabrication and engineering operation. This is a rare opportunity for a commercially minded Operations Manager to step into a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for workshop operations, customer relationships, financial performance and strategic business improvement. The successful Operations Manager will play a key role in driving efficiency, profitability and sustainable growth whilst leading a skilled and dedicated team.
This position offers far more than day-to-day workshop management. The Operations Manager will be a key decision-maker, working closely with senior stakeholders to improve processes, strengthen customer relationships and support the long-term success of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day management of the fabrication workshop, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards
- Manage production schedules, resource allocation and operational performance
- Lead, motivate and develop a small team of fabrication professionals and administrative support staff
- Build and maintain strong relationships with both existing and prospective customers
- Support estimating activities and contribute to the preparation of quotations and commercial proposals
- Take ownership of profit and loss performance, helping to drive profitability and operational efficiency
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the business
- Lead the implementation and integration of business management, accounting or operational systems
- Work closely with finance functions to support reporting, invoicing and financial controls
- Contribute to strategic planning and business development activities
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong background within steel fabrication, engineering or a related manufacturing environment
- Previous experience in a leadership role such as Operations Manager, Production Manager, Works Manager or Engineering Manager
- Demonstrable experience managing teams and driving operational performance
- Estimating and commercial experience within an engineering or fabrication environment
- Excellent communication and customer relationship management skills
- Experience implementing new systems, processes or operational improvements
- Strong commercial acumen and understanding of financial controls
- Self-motivated, proactive and capable of managing multiple priorities
