Our reputation has been developed through the relationships we build with our customers, drivers and subcontractors, and we are looking for someone who understands the importance of maintaining those standards in a busy transport office.
We are now looking for an experienced Transport Manager to join our busy traffic office and support the smooth planning and running of daily transport operations. The ideal candidate will be efficient and confident in planning vehicle movements, while also recognising opportunities to strengthen working relationships with customers, drivers, subcontractors and other key contacts across the operation.
About the Role
The Transport Operator will be responsible for helping plan, manage and monitor daily vehicle movements, keeping customers updated, liaising with drivers and subcontractors, booking Vehicle Booking Slots for port entry and ensuring all job information is kept accurate on the Transport Management System. This is a fast-paced role suited to someone who understands the pressure of a haulage office and is comfortable dealing with changing priorities, delays, customer updates and operational issues throughout the day. Container transport experience would be highly beneficial.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning and routing vehicles efficiently
- Managing daily transport operations within a busy traffic office
- Liaising with drivers throughout the day regarding collections, deliveries, ETAs and delays
- Communicating with subcontractors and supporting outsourced movements where required
- Dealing with customers and keeping them updated professionally
- Communicating with UK ports where required
- Booking Vehicle Booking Slots for port entry
- Monitoring ETAs and helping ensure collections and deliveries run on time
- Using a Transport Management System to manage and update jobs
- Updating jobs accurately on the system throughout the day
- Checking PODs and ensuring paperwork is matched to the correct jobs
- Responding quickly to delays, changes, driver issues and operational problems
- Supporting the team to maximise vehicle efficiency and profitability
- Maintaining strong communication across the office, drivers, subcontractors and customers
- Helping ensure completed jobs are accurate, checked and ready for closure
- Working closely with the wider team to maintain a reliable and professional transport operation
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous haulage office experience is essential
- Container transport experience is essential
- Strong UK geographical knowledge
- Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work in a fast-paced transport office
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to daily issues
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to use own initiative and work as part of a team
- An organised, reliable and flexible approach
- Good IT skills and confidence using transport or office systems

- Willingness to be on call as part of a team, if required
