Driver Despatch Coordinator Preston Monday – Friday 45 hours per week (4:00am start) Up to £28500 Join our clients dynamic team as a Driver Despatch Coordinator, where you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our transport and logistics function. You’ll be the first point of contact for drivers, oversee despatch operations, and ensure compliance with temperature control and routing procedures. Key Responsibilities: * Act as a site keyholder, ensuring secure opening/closing of the premises. * Start vehicle engines when first on-site to reach correct temperature settings. * Monitor and review temperature graphs in both chiller and ambient rooms; report any deviations to the Quality team. * Manage the despatch of morning trunk routes and multi-drop deliveries. * Oversee driver scanning processes and assist with vehicle loading. * Confirm all consignments are scanned correctly and liaise with drivers to resolve any discrepancies. * Organise driver cover for unplanned absences or sickness. * Make real-time routing adjustments as needed. * Ensure drivers depart within scheduled lead times. * Verify pre-departure checks and vehicle temperature settings are completed. * Conduct regular checks of chilled loading bays and temperature-controlled areas. * Export route data to drivers’ PDAs. * Complete and maintain exception reports. * Handle operational calls, particularly those from drivers. * Support ad-hoc driver cover and deliver induction training for new drivers. * Carry out driving duties when required. * Undertake additional tasks within the remit of the Despatch Coordinator role. * Ensure seamless operation of despatch and routing activities. * Effectively prioritise workloads to meet time-sensitive deadlines. * Adhere to all relevant SOPs and operational guidelines. * Assess incidents/accidents and escalate based on severity. Skills & Experience Required: * Forklift truck licence essential. * Sound knowledge of the organisation and its operational goals. * Strong understanding of tachograph legislation and transport compliance. * Ability to maintain confidentiality and build solid working relationships. * Proactive problem-solving skills and a team-focused approach. * Manage administration relating to driver fines and police notifications (desireable) If you have the required skillset, please apply for immediate consideration
