RINA is currently recruiting for an Electrical Power Earthing & Lightning Protection Technician to join its office in Manchester within the Power & Energy Solutions Division. The Electrical Technician works within the Power / Earthing & Lightning Protection (E&LP) Unit and reports to the Head of E&LP. You will support the E&LP team in servicing their client base, providing solutions to earthing & lightning protection projects across diverse sectors. The role will be based at the Manchester Office (with potential relocation to Stoke) and will involve frequent travel to client substation locations across the UK, as well as equipment maintenance and site team support functions from the office/workshop. You will be working on the UK's most critical and complex installations that power the country. If you are willing to travel (expenses paid across the UK), have a strong work ethic, are hands-on, and possess a can-do attitude, you will find this position rewarding and technically progressive. On-the-job training will be provided.

Role Responsibilities

  • Site Measurements
  • Assisting with site-based electrical testing of earthing systems at electrical substations, power stations, and renewable energy projects.
  • Conducting soil resistivity surveys for high voltage installations.
  • Recording and disseminating data gathered on-site.
  • Performing dynamic quality checks on site data to ensure high standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Site Work Support Functions
    • Performing regular maintenance of site equipment, including checks for damage and cleaning.
    • Organizing the workshop area and maintaining tidiness.
    • Repairing defective site equipment and arranging off-site repairs for major defects.
    • Assembling new equipment or liaising with manufacturers.
    • Arranging calibration of test instruments.
    • Managing PPE orders and stock levels for the site team.
    • Conducting routine checks on site vehicles, including MOTs, servicing, and repairs.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    • Essential electrical-related technical qualification (NVQ, apprenticeship, BTEC, etc.).
    • At least 1 year's experience in an electrical-related role.
    • A full, clean driving license, as travel across the UK will be required.
    • Willingness to attend client sites at various locations around the UK to perform earth testing work.
    • Ability and willingness to stay away from home for short periods (2-4 nights) during site testing.
