The Role

We are currently hiring for a Senior Claims Examiner to join our Marine Claims team in our London office to manage a portfolio of complex Marine claims, delivering expert technical handling and driving timely, cost‑effective outcomes for customers and the business. You will play a key role in handling high‑value and technically complex claims while contributing to team development and maintaining strong broker and client relationships.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage a varied portfolio of Marine claims across cargo, freight liability, transport & logistics and fine art & specie, ensuring effective and proactive handling within authority limits.
  • Analyse and apply complex policy wordings, making sound coverage decisions and escalating where required.
  • Coordinate investigations with brokers, insureds, experts and solicitors, developing strategies to achieve timely and cost‑effective claim resolution.
  • Set and maintain accurate reserves, control claim costs and manage payments in line with internal guidelines and authority levels.
  • Provide mentoring to less experienced colleagues while analysing claims trends, identifying recovery opportunities and contributing to reporting and business insights.

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience handling Marine claims, ideally across both Company and Lloyd’s markets, with strong technical capability.
  • Strong understanding of policy wordings, coverage interpretation and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to evaluate complex claims, assess exposure and make balanced, commercially sound decisions.
  • Confident communicator able to build relationships and negotiate effectively with brokers, clients and external partners.
  • Understanding of underwriting principles and business objectives, with the ability to adapt in a changing environment and contribute to continuous improvement.
