We’re Checkout.com – you might not know our name, but companies like eBay, ASOS, Klarna, Uber Eats, and Sony do. That moment when you check out online? We make it happen. Checkout.com is where the world checks out. Our global network powers billions of transactions every year, making money move without making a fuss. We spent years perfecting a service most people will never notice. Because when digital payments just work, businesses grow, customers stay, and no one stops to think about why. With 19 offices spanning six continents, we feel at home everywhere – but London is our HQ. Wherever our people work their magic, they’re fast‑moving, performance‑obsessed, and driven by being better every day.
As our value grows, so does our need for extraordinary people. At Checkout.com we are looking for an Interim Content Design Manager to lead our talented Content Design team for a 12‑month maternity cover. You will be responsible for a team of four Content Designers, ensuring they continue to build the next generation of financial products and online payment solutions through human‑centered, empathetic, and intuitive design. As a manager you’ll be a coach, a strategic partner to Product and Engineering, and will always have an eye on how we can evolve our craft.
We are looking for a leader who is a seasoned expert in Content Design and genuinely excited by the frontier of AI and automation. You should be able to demonstrate how you’ve used these technologies to sharpen team processes, scale impact, or improve the user experience.
The Team: You’ll lead a dedicated squad of four Content Designers within our broader Product Design function. Our wider department has more than 30 people across Product Design, UX Research, Content Design and Technical Documentation.
Hybrid Working Model: All of our offices globally operate on a 3‑day per week onsite model (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). We believe in the power of spontaneous collaboration and building global solutions together in the same space. During your days at the office, we offer amazing snacks, breakfast, and lunch options to keep the team fueled.
Qualifications and Experience- A proven leader: You have experience managing Content Designers, helping them navigate their career goals while delivering high‑quality, measurable results.
- AI enthusiast: You have a keen interest in AI and automation, with tangible examples of how you have applied these tools to improve workflows or product outcomes.
- Strategic thinker: You can balance business urgency with the need for team stability and long‑term skill development.
- Empathetic coach: You lead through inspiration rather than prescription, building deep trust with your reports and cross‑functional peers.
- Accountable operator: You take ownership of delivery, even when it spans beyond your immediate discipline, and you make informed decisions when managing design debt.
- Effective communicator: You can articulate team goals clearly to stakeholders, ensuring that Content Design is a required contributor to our product strategy.
- Strong portfolio: A body of work that demonstrates your expertise in UX writing, content strategy and systems thinking.
- AI implementation: Real‑world examples of how you’ve integrated AI or automation into team processes or product experiences.
- SaaS or fintech background: Experience in online payments, B2B ecosystems, or complex Software‑as‑a‑Service environments is highly preferred.
- Advocacy: Experience promoting the value of Content Design to senior stakeholders and cross‑functional partners.
- Global content strategy: Experience designing for a global audience, with a deep understanding of how to create “localisation‑ready” source content.
- Process excellence: You are highly process‑driven, with a proven ability to identify bottlenecks and implement new opportunities for efficiency.
