We are looking for an experienced tax professional to serve as International Direct Tax Lead for a 9‑month maternity cover. The role reports directly to the Global Head of Tax and is responsible for overseeing direct tax strategy, planning, compliance, and reporting across our international operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute international direct tax compliance, reporting, and planning, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and support the international direct tax sub‑team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous development.
- Serve as the main point of contact for tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities across global jurisdictions.
- Provide targeted strategic tax advice to regional leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders in partnership with the Global Head of Tax.
- Collaborate proactively with Finance, Legal and other departments to embed direct tax considerations into international expansion plans, new product initiatives and operational decisions.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors to ensure efficient and accurate deliverables.
- Support the Head of Tax on direct tax aspects of corporate finance initiatives, M&A transactions and internal reorganisations.
- Uphold Checkout.com’s operating principles within the tax function.
Qualifications & Experience
- Leadership experience in an in‑house tax function with deep expertise in international direct tax operations and transfer pricing.
- Evidence of supporting and guiding high‑performing tax teams in a complex, demanding environment.
- Strong, up‑to‑date knowledge of direct tax laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience independently managing international direct tax audits and regulatory inquiries.
- Execution‑focused with the ability to prioritise and deliver under tight timelines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence a diverse global audience.
- Data‑driven mindset and ability to leverage insights to determine strategic priorities.
