Purpose of the role
-
The key objective for the post-holder is the elimination of workplace accidents, environmental incidents and ill health within their respective area of control.

To assist in the continued development and maintenance of the Integrated Management System (IMS).

The post-holder will support site and senior operational management to AGM and AOM level in their respective area of the business on SHE issues, providing suitable advice, assistance and training.

To promote competence training, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, disseminating best practice and carrying out behavioral auditing and site inspections for Health and Safety, Environment and Sustainability

Plan, schedule and deliver professional SHE training to site operatives, managers and senior managers, including wider sustainability matters

Develop SHE training packages to support the Integrated Management System (IMS), Pathway System and MPA ‘Safety by Competence’ requirements.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SHE legislation, guidance and best practice relevant to industry Support the training department in any other reasonable capacity as directed by the SHE BP or Sustainability Director.
Key accountabilities

To support the management and identify further development needs of the Company IMS and associated database systems that support it. In conjunction with operations management and the Sustainability management team, review on a regular basis the effectiveness of the IMS system procedures

To establish and manage working groups to review current IMS procedures ensuring their development and delivery to maximise effectiveness and reduce cost.

To support site and senior management to ensure all SHE related accidents, dangerous occurrences, significant near-hits, incidents and cases of occupational ill health are fully investigated using root cause analysis techniques, and advise on the necessary measures to avoid a similar occurrence; as appropriate

To attend senior management meetings to promote and advance the Business Lines and Sustainability Dept. SHE strategies

To deputise for the SHE Business Partner at business line senior operations meetings including those chaired by the business line Managing Director or Regional Directors

To liaise with the business line Regional Managers to schedule, support and attend Panel of Learning meetings following significant workplace incidents

To carry out site visits to strategic sites with senior and project management to promote and advance the Business Lines and Sustainability Dept. SHE strategies and promote best practice and 2030 Company objectives

To liaise with senior managers, projects managers, Company engineers, managers and contractors regarding the performance of new and existing plant and equipment, to ensure compliance with legal and company standards. To provide SHE Dept. sign-off in conjunction with construction project managers and senior operations managers on large CAPEX projects.

To assist in the application for environmental permit applications for part A and B installations and variations across all Hanson UK sites. Co-ordinate PPC, other necessary environment related applications and production of environmental impact assessments, as required.

Where appropriate, to act as the primary point of contact for the local or national health, safety or environment regulatory and enforcement bodies.

To advise and support senior management, to ensure regulatory compliance and improved SHE performance at all Hanson UK sites. Work with senior and site managers to ensure a consistent approach to SHE management across all Company operations.

To monitor and report on SHE performance at AGM and AOM meetings across the area under your responsibility. To monitor and promote follow up action from internal/external audits, statutory inspection reports and incidents.

To advise the business on compliance requirements for SHE requirements outlined in the IMS. Support industry bodies (both at a UK and European level), working groups or Heidelberg Cement, as directed by line-management.

To support the Regional Directors with the arrangements, scheduling and delivery of the sustainability matters working group meetings.

To attend and advise the safety, health or environmental committees in your area of responsibility or as advised by line-management.

To support the embedding of sustainable behaviour and practise on operational sites

To develop SHE related safety alerts and other SHE communications as identified or requested by the SHE BP or Sustainability Director
