Please note that this post is funded for the 2026/27 academic year onwards so the successful candidate would not be expected to commence in post prior to August 2026. The School for Vocational and Technical Studies at South Thames College is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Plumbing lecturer to deliver outstanding quality teaching, learning, assessment and tutorial support to students to maximise achievement and continuous improvement.
You’ll play a key role in supporting the development of the curriculum with employer engagement and learner skills development and select appropriate assessment methods and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
We’d like you to hold a plumbing qualification, a teaching qualification and have recent teaching experience in Plumbing in an FE College. With proven ability to plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons, you’ll have experience of assessing, tracking and supporting student progress effectively. With strong classroom management skills, able to motivate diverse learners, you’ll have good understanding of current FE curriculum frameworks and quality standards. Able to differentiate teaching to meet a wide range of learner needs, you’ll be a strong communicator with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
There will be up to £5K uplift (pro rata) if the candidate has the following:
- Relevant vocational experience in an appropriate subject
- Teaching qualification or willingness to complete
- Relevant industry experience
There will be a further uplift up to £5K (pro rata) if the candidate has the following:
- Hold a JIB-PMES (Joint Industry Board for Plumbing and Mechanical Engineering Services) CSCS Registration card.
- A relevant recognised Level 3 assessor qualification e.g. TAQA.
The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that will be implemented in the new academic year. Closing date for the return of completed applications is 28th April 2026.
The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 40 days plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. The benefits package is pro-rated for part time staff.
