Carshalton College is seeking a Workshop Assistant to provide technical support across carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation, bricklaying, multiskills, motor vehicle and motorcycle workshops. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining workshops and equipment within the Construction, Engineering, Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle departments, while also monitoring stock levels and inventory for both equipment and materials.

You’ll assist with stock control, coordinate deliveries of equipment and consumables and work closely with academic and technical staff to provide effective support in both the stores and workshops. We are looking for someone with specialist experience in one or more of the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, bricklaying, motor vehicle and/or motorcycle.

The successful candidate will have experience working in a similar environment and possess strong technical knowledge gained from a technician background. You will hold a vocational or trade qualification to at least NVQ Level 2 in a relevant discipline, such as Carpentry and Joinery, Plumbing, Electrical Installation or another related trade area.

You’ll be confident in setting up, monitoring and maintaining administrative systems, with a strong understanding of Health and Safety and Welfare legislation and the ability to identify and implement improvements to existing processes. Strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines and excellent organisational and prioritisation skills are essential, along with the ability to use your own initiative.

The successful candidate will be eligible for any increase in salary as a consequence of the annual cost of living review that will be implemented in the new academic year. Closing date for the return of completed applications is 3rd June 2026.
