Responsibilities
- Lead and support staff delivering English qualifications, monitor the quality of teaching across GCSE English and ESOL to ensure consistently high standards.
- Ensure provision meets the expectations of students and complies with the requirements of awarding bodies, employers and higher education institutions.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and Deputy Head of School to lead and support colleagues, driving continuous improvement and raising the quality of education across ESOL and English provision.
- Contribute to curriculum management, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement.
- Monitor and support at-risk learners to help them achieve or exceed their potential; develop and implement strategies for improvement within the curriculum area.
Qualifications and Experience
- Teaching qualification required; excellent current teaching skills in English; recognised as a good or better teacher.
- Degree or relevant professional qualifications in an appropriate subject.
- Experience of leading and/or managing GCSE English and/or Functional Skills English; track record of sustained improvements.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes and how they enhance the student experience.
- Experience managing, supporting and developing staff.
- Experience monitoring at-risk learners and applying effective strategies to support achievement.
- Vision for improvement and development of the curriculum area; knowledge of impending curriculum changes and implications for teaching and learning strategies.
- Creative problem solving with high personal standards and expectations; openness to new ideas and initiatives.
