An exciting opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to join our Onshore Energy team. This role sits within a global underwriting portfolio, writing international business across company and Lloyd’s platforms, and plays a key part in the continued development and performance of our Onshore Energy offering.

With a strong market and broker focus, you’ll be responsible for developing and managing broker relationships, underwriting profitable business across a broad onshore energy and heavy industry risk profile, and contributing to the ongoing evolution of our global appetite. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced underwriter - or a broker who has transitioned into underwriting - to step into a visible, influential role within a collaborative, high-performing team, with genuine scope to shape underwriting outcomes and build a strong market profile. Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role. QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.

Your new role:

  • Perform complex underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.
  • Support the development of the annual business plan for the portfolio and ensure delivery of the plan.
  • Contribute and participate in team and portfolio meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.
  • Apply reinsurance requirements appropriately to manage exposure and support business plan objectives.
  • Act as a technical referral point, identifying underwriting issues and opportunities within the Onshore Energy portfolio.
  • Establish and strengthen strong relationships with brokers, customers, business partners and internal stakeholders to maximise influence and achieve business objectives.
  • Contribute to portfolio review and analysis to assess performance against underwriting and profitability targets.
  • Support aggregate management and peer review processes to promote underwriting excellence and consistency.

About you:

  • Proven underwriting capability within a general property, heavy industry or energy-related insurance environment, with hands-on experience of underwriting decision making.
  • Strong market-facing skills, with the ability to build credibility and trusted relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Sound technical understanding of policy wordings, relevant regulations and market dynamics within property and energy classes.
  • Experience underwriting complex risks and contributing to portfolio management within a commercial insurance setting.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data and insight to identify profitable opportunities and support underwriting decisions.
  • Confident negotiator with the judgement to balance commercial outcomes and risk discipline.
  • A collaborative mindset, comfortable working within a global team structure and contributing to shared underwriting goals.
