You’ll work across cloud infrastructure, automation, security, and observability, helping set engineering standards and improving platform performance, reliability, and cost efficiency. This is a hybrid role based in Newcastle.

Role Overview

As a Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and continuously improve cloud platforms across multiple client environments. You will work closely with architects, developers, and delivery teams to ensure platforms are secure, scalable, observable, and aligned with engineering best practices. You will also contribute to platform strategy, automation standards, and engineering excellence across CGI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve secure, scalable cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Define and implement Infrastructure as Code standards and reusable modules
  • Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines for efficient and secure delivery
  • Support containerised workloads and orchestration platforms
  • Implement observability solutions (logging, monitoring, alerting, metrics)
  • Ensure platforms meet enterprise security and governance standards
  • Troubleshoot and resolve critical incidents to improve resilience
  • Optimise cloud usage and costs using FinOps principles
  • Contribute to technical bids, strategy, and engineering communities
  • Share knowledge and help improve platform engineering practices across teams

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or CloudFormation)
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with container platforms (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift)
  • Strong understanding of observability and monitoring tools and practices
  • Knowledge of secure, resilient infrastructure design in enterprise environments
  • Experience troubleshooting platform-level incidents
  • Strong communication and documentation skills

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments
  • Exposure to pre-sales, bids, or solution design work
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives
  • Relevant cloud or platform certifications (AWS, Azure, Terraform, Kubernetes)
