Salary: £59,500 - £75,000. Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with broad bands. The salary range shown reflects the approved grade band for this role, or a narrower hiring range published within that band, and is benchmarked against the external market.

Your Impact

The Captor-E Mk0 Radar is produced for the Eurofighter Typhoon and currently in operation with multiple export customers. There is a need for a Lead Systems Engineer to play a pivotal role in the broad scope of work delivered by the ECRS Mk0 Systems Engineering team, and this will be as Deputy to the Mk0 EIS Chief Systems Engineer. The Systems Engineering team operate across the full lifecycle, and so you will have involvement across Requirements Definition, Functional Design, Design Change Management, Trials Support & Analysis, and Verification & Validation. As a systems engineer you will work closely with a broad range of engineering disciplines, including software, integration & test, and international partner organisations. The role will require you to work with a range of stakeholders, including the Systems Team Lead, Chief Systems and Software Engineers, and Design Authorities. What you’ll do

  • Support the Chief Systems Engineer to:
    • Co-ordinate maintenance of ECRS Mk0 System Engineering Development Plan and Integrated Test, Evaluation and Acceptance Plan (ITEAP)
    • Define the functional architecture for the ECRS Mk0 Radar System
    • Co-ordinate the system functional design of the ECRS Mk0 product
    • Provide technical leadership to System Subject Matter Experts within the Integrated Programme Team
    • Develop and mentor System Subject Matter Experts within the Integrated Programme Team
    • Act as Leonardo UK’s principal contributor to the Euroradar Systems Engineering Group
  • You will also:
    • Deputise for the Chief Systems Engineer across relevant forums and areas of responsibility
    • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support programme delivery
    • Help shape the technical direction and long‑term capability development of the product

What you’ll bring

  • Experience providing technical leadership in a dynamic engineering environment
  • Experience of Radar Systems Design and/or Qualification at a Lead Engineer level
  • Familiarity with the principles of Pulsed Doppler radar waveform design and signal processing implementation
  • Familiarity with the principles of Radar tracking and trade‑offs against supporting detection schemes
  • Experience of Integration, Test, Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to obtain SC security clearance
  • Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

What else would help

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering, science or technology discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status is desirable
  • Experience with any of the following tools: MATLAB, Simulink, Siemens Teamcenter, IBM DOORS

This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
