About the Role

We are building a community of designers, researchers and product professionals to support the public sector's growing demand for a user‑centred, design‑and‑product‑led approach to how services are delivered. As a Lead Product Manager, reporting to the Discipline Head, you will enable public sector organisations to better design services that improve society. You will role‑model best practice, lead teams, provide strategic direction and work as part of cross‑functional teams to inspire trust, guide, coach and iterate through the product process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on complex engagements and, when necessary, at programme level for high‑risk or sensitive projects.
  • Recruit, interview and onboard new team members; line‑manage up to three Senior Product Managers.
  • Provide strategic direction within the community of practice and coach and mentor others.
  • Apply Agile and Lean practices, innovate and advocate for best approaches.
  • Provide expert consultancy to stakeholders and lead on developing guidance for all UCP services.
  • Own financial and strategic aspects of product management.
  • Drive success through the full product life cycle and operational management.
  • Anticipate and solve problems, building problem‑solving capabilities in others.
  • Lead product and strategic ownership, ensuring user needs are met.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Experience helping grow product teams through community, hiring and line management.
  • Excellent understanding and passion for the value of product and user‑centred design.
  • Experience delivering user‑centred products and services from ideation through to maintenance phases.
  • Experience assisting in developing product communities of practice as a leader or leading member of a high‑performing practice.
  • Ability to support and coach others to grow their skills and take on more responsibility for client‑facing projects.
  • Educate and mentor team members, collaborators and peers on product and agile delivery.
  • Experienced in working directly with customers and users, driving teams to deliver excellent outcomes.
  • Working within a design consultancy or senior product leadership role in the public sector, health or allied areas.
  • Strong empathy and relationship‑building skills.

SC Eligibility

Successive candidates for this role must have eligibility for a Security Check (SC) clearance, requiring 5 years UK residency and 5 years employment history or full‑time education. If during the interview process it is apparent that a candidate is not eligible, the application will not progress.
