About the Team

Privacy and Trust sit at the core of VMO2. Our mission is to enable the business to unlock the full value of data—safely, responsibly, and at pace. We are building a modern, embedded and product-led privacy function that goes beyond compliance to deliver scalable, automated capabilities that:

  • Enable fast, confident decision-making through pragmatic risk management
  • Embed privacy into products, platforms, and customer journeys by design
  • Replace manual processes with cloud-first, automated solutions
  • Drive consistent, reusable controls across data and technology ecosystems
  • Enhance customer trust through better privacy experiences

About the Role

This is not a traditional privacy/compliance role. This is a first-line, business-embedded role focused on enabling innovation by providing clear, pragmatic, risk-based advice and building scalable privacy solutions. This includes:

  • Act as a trusted advisor to product and business teams, helping them move fast while managing privacy and AI risks effectively
  • Help design and deliver product-led privacy capabilities that improve efficiency, automation, and consistency
  • Contribute to improving customer-facing privacy experiences and trust outcomes

Key Responsibilities

As a Privacy Lead, you will be accountable for:

  1. Risk-Based Privacy and AI Enablement
    • Provide clear, commercially pragmatic privacy advice that enables delivery at pace
    • Support teams in identifying risks and designing proportionate, effective controls
    • Act as a decision enabler, balancing risk, customer impact, and business value
  2. Product-Led Capability Development
    • Contribute to the design and evolution of scalable privacy capabilities (e.g. Privacy and AI Assessment tooling, risk frameworks and controls)
    • Apply a product mindset to privacy focusing on usability, adoption, and measurable impact
    • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline privacy and responsible AI processes
  3. AI & Emerging Technology
    • Assess and advise on risks in AI and data-driven use cases
    • Support the development of responsible AI practices that are practical and business-aligned
    • Translate emerging regulatory expectations into implementable controls and guidance
  4. Customer Trust & Experience
    • Help improve how privacy is experienced by customers across our journeys
    • Support initiatives that enhance transparency, control, and trust
  5. Stakeholder & Delivery Partnership
    • Build strong relationships with Product, Security, Data, DPO and Legal teams
    • Embed privacy into delivery processes, platforms, and design decisions
    • Influence outcomes through credibility, pragmatism, and collaboration
  6. Continuous Improvement & Innovation
    • Stay ahead of regulatory and technology developments, especially in AI
    • Drive ongoing maturity in privacy through innovation, automation, and simplification

Skills and Experience

  • Pragmatic Privacy Expertise: Experience providing risk-based, commercially focused privacy advice and designing effective controls in data-centric or large-scale digital organisations.
  • Product & Delivery Mindset: Experience building or contributing to scalable capabilities, frameworks, or tooling (not just advisory).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of GDPR, PECR, and other applicable privacy laws. Professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or BCS Data Protection Practitioner are highly desirable.
  • AI Privacy Awareness: Understanding of privacy challenges related to AI and machine learning, including data minimisation, bias, transparency, and compliance.
  • Risk & Control Design: Strong ability to translate risks into practical, proportionate, and implementable controls.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated success in partnering with technical and specialist teams across organisational boundaries to secure buy-in and deliver practical solutions.
  • Team-Oriented Leadership: Collaborative, inclusive, and committed to fostering a psychologically safe environment where diverse perspectives thrive.
  • Communication Excellence: Exceptional ability to simplify complex concepts and present to audiences with varying technical knowledge.
  • Technology & Ways of Working: Experience working in agile environments and with cloud platforms (e.g. GCP).
