A fantastic opportunity to join us as we create a standalone Payments Acquiring business embracing a fintech culture from our new offices alongside our Brookfield partners. Barclays’ payments acceptance business (BPL) provides critical infrastructure to the UK economy, processing billions of pounds of payments annually for both small businesses and corporate clients. This is an exciting time to join a unique project well suited to candidates who thrive in a fast-paced, flat organisation.

Our platform & infrastructure team provide the hardened, high-velocity foundations that allow our product teams to ship code to production that moves billions of pounds with total confidence. As a Junior Software Engineer on our Platform team, you are a builder and multiplier for how our engineering organisation ships software. Our execution is high impact and, in this role, you’ll be part of wide-ranging deliverables, being hands-on with product and delivery colleagues.

To be successful as a Junior Software Engineer, essential skills include:

  • Evidence of working with engineering teams on complex, scalable systems. You’ve seen things break at scale, and worked with your Engineering leads to resolve issues in a sustainable way.
  • Working knowledge of Cloud, Kubernetes, and the broader CNCF ecosystem.
  • Competent in at least two languages (e.g., Rust, Go, Kotlin) and a 'right tool for the job' philosophy.
  • Experience of collaborating with various stakeholders such as Product Managers.

  • Confident to partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the journey and explaining complex technical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.

The successful candidate will be based in London. Our offices are located at 1 Churchill Place and 7 Westferry Circus (new BPL office). We support a hybrid working pattern with 3 days per week office-based presence expected.
