About the role

This role is responsible for delivering high-quality executive communications, with a primary focus on supporting the Chief Executive, ensuring full alignment with BT Group’s wider corporate narrative and activity. Reporting to the Corporate Affairs and Transformation Director, the Executive Communications Lead will develop and deliver speeches, briefings, presentations, social media posts and written materials that clearly articulate BT Group’s strategy, performance and priorities. This role will support executive communications across the group, including direct support for the CEO. Success will depend on close alignment with Corporate Affairs, Investor Relations, Public Affairs and internal and external communications teams to ensure a consistent and joined-up story across the business.

The successful candidate will be a strong writer and content creator, capable of producing high-quality materials at pace and to a consistently high standard. They will translate complex business issues into clear, compelling narratives tailored to different audiences, including employees, investors, policymakers and partners.

Working closely with the Head of the Chief Executive’s Office, the role holder will support planning and delivery of CEO engagements and contribute to the effective management of the CEO’s speaker programme. They will also collaborate across teams to develop materials for other senior leaders where required, ensuring consistency of messaging and tone.

This role requires excellent judgement, attention to detail and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders. It will suit someone who combines strong writing and delivery capability with practical, collaborative working, and who is comfortable operating as part of a broader Corporate Affairs ecosystem.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the drafting and development of executive communications, including speeches, briefings, messages, and other written content.
  • Support a consistent tone of voice and clearer communications approach for senior leadership content.
  • Work across multiple teams to gather, assess, and synthesize complex input into coherent executive narratives.
  • Build strong working relationships with senior stakeholders and contributors to manage content effectively from request through to delivery.
  • Handle communications activity with sound judgment, balancing audience needs, business context, and reputational considerations.
  • Operate effectively in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities, tight deadlines, and sensitive subject matter.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Strong experience delivering executive communications, including speeches, briefings and presentations.
  • Proven track record as a high-quality writer and content creator for senior leaders or organisational figureheads.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics into clear, concise and compelling narratives.
  • Experience producing materials aligned to business strategy, performance and corporate priorities (e.g. results, announcements, key moments).
  • Ability to work at pace, managing multiple outputs to tight deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy, clarity and consistency.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, with experience working across teams to develop and align content.
  • Sound judgement and discretion when handling sensitive or high-profile material.

  • Experience working with chief executive or executive office teams.
  • Background in consultancy, corporate affairs, communications or a related discipline.
