A high-impact role with responsibility for designing and delivering robust reinsurance strategies that underpin the business’s financial strength and long-term growth. Sitting on the CUO leadership team and reporting directly into the International CUO, this role covers the QBE International division (UK, Europe and Asia).

This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape and deliver the organisation’s reinsurance strategy, working closely with executive stakeholders across underwriting, finance and claims. The role offers broad exposure to strategic decision-making, governance and portfolio management within a complex, regulated environment, while leading a high-performing team. It is well suited to someone who enjoys combining strategic influence with hands-on leadership, driving continuous improvement and ensuring reinsurance programmes effectively support the business’s long-term objectives.

Your new role:

  • Designing and executing the divisional reinsurance strategies across UK, Europe and Asia, in conjunction with the Executive Management Board.
  • Managing local relationships with external brokers and reinsurers as well as QBE’s captive reinsurer.
  • Supporting the design and implementation of Group strategy with a matrix reporting line into the Group Head of Ceded Reinsurance.
  • Ensuring regulatory, legislative, Group and local compliance across all outwards reinsurance activities.
  • Driving continuous improvement of systems, processes and technologies to optimise efficiency, investment and resource use.
  • Managing Reinsurance placement team and working in conjunction with Portfolio Managers and Product Heads, ensuring strong performance, engagement and collaboration.
  • Acting as an escalation point for accurate and timely payment of premiums and collection of reinsurance recoveries and all reinsurance operational matters.
  • Preparing Board papers and supporting with Group and regulatory returns.
  • Leading delivery of strategic projects, KPIs and performance management to support business and team objectives.

About You:

  • Credible, visible leader with the gravitas to influence senior underwriters through trust and collaboration.
  • Strong external knowledge and relationships with key broker and reinsurance partners.
  • Highly skilled at building trusted relationships across underwriting, claims, operations and finance, with underwriters actively valuing your input and engagement.
  • A skilled communicator and negotiator, able to challenge constructively, stand firm where needed and operate effectively at senior levels.
  • Brings deep technical knowledge of insurance products, with a strong understanding of underwriting, claims and operational impacts.
  • Curious, hands-on and collaborative in style, aligning with the CUO leadership culture, working closely with teams and avoiding siloes.
  • Commercially aware with a strong understanding of local markets and future growth opportunities, using insight to shape meaningful outcomes.
