This role will be based 5 days on site in Gloucester. At DXC, one of our platinum accounts has openings for Unix System Administrators at varying skill levels. The successful candidate will work within multiple teams and will be innovative and analytical with a good eye for detail. Your role will include implementing standards, policies, and procedures for continual service improvement.
Role responsibilities
- Provide first and second level technical support on incidents and problems
- Monitor overall system performance and ensure smooth system functionality
- Create, maintain, and utilise documentation
- Assist building compliance with processes and policies

- Proficiency in UNIX/Linux systems (Red Hat, Debian, Solaris, AIX, etc.)
- Shell scripting (Bash, KornShell, etc.)
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef
- Process and job control (cron, at, systemd timers)
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, FTP)
- Filesystem management (LVM, ext4, XFS, ZFS)
- Performance tuning and monitoring (top, vmstat, iostat, sar, netstat)
- Exposure to automation software such as Ansible/Puppet
- Knowledge of scripting with Bash, Python, and/or Git
- Experience of AWS Automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
