The opportunity is to join the GCAP development team at Leonardo, working at either the Edinburgh or Newcastle site. GCAP is a new project team designing a radar sensor. You will be part of a multi-disciplined delivery team responsible for the full engineering lifecycle from requirements capture to final delivery.

What you’ll do as a Principal High-Speed Digital Electronics Engineer:

  • Design high-speed digital Printed Circuit Boards that utilise the latest FPGA, microprocessor, and high-speed interconnect technologies.
  • Support throughout the full hardware lifecycle from requirements analysis, through design and unit test, to integrating hardware with the target system, and lastly to acceptance test and delivery to the customer.
  • Fully document and record your work products; keep them under configuration management, and provide plans and progress reports.
  • Work within a multi-disciplined team of engineers to solve real integration problems on complex systems.

What we need from you:

  • Qualifications: first or second degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD, EngD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (preferable) or related science (e.g. Physics).
  • Analyse system level requirements documents and understand their application to hardware designs.
  • Schematic capture experience.
  • Design of high-speed serial communication links and knowledge of associated protocols and architectures.
  • Hands-on experience of hardware, firmware & software integration of microprocessor-based designs onto hardware platforms is essential.
  • A methodical approach to the full hardware design lifecycle, working to a structured hardware process.
  • Debugging, testing, and verification of new designs and supporting their commissioning and integration into the target system.
  • Ability to liaise with suppliers of key components and assemblies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across different disciplines both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to schedule work and manage time in keeping with project timescales and budgets.

Security Clearance: To apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK security clearance, normally to the level of Security Check (SC), which requires a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK.
