Nectar360 sits at the heart of Sainsbury’s Group’s customer, data and media capability — and our Groceries Online (GOL) ecommerce retail media business is one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic areas of the organisation. In this role you’ll lead the team shaping how brands show up across Sainsburys.co.uk, the App, quick commerce and emerging channels (including the growing role of agentic commerce), turning customer insight into measurable outcomes for clients and profit growth for the business. You’ll join a collaborative digital leadership community that works closely across Nectar360, Sainsbury’s and Argos — with Product & Technology, Analytics, Ecommerce and more — to keep our offer market‑leading and customer‑first.

As Ecommerce Media Director, you’ll be accountable for Sainsbury’s ecommerce retail media strategy and plan, and for delivering and growing a significant multi‑million‑pound GOL media revenue budget through strong relationships and our award‑winning Ecommerce Media Platform (EMP). Reporting to the Director of Digital Media, you’ll lead a direct team of 3 and a wider team of 10, setting direction, prioritising requests, and creating a high‑performance environment built on coaching, clear goals and ethical leadership.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll balance commercial delivery with long‑term proposition development: identifying opportunities across the broader GOL media portfolio, evolving monetisation strategy, and partnering with stakeholders to introduce new or enhanced media capabilities that clients recognise as industry‑leading — all while protecting customer journeys and increasing relevance, personalisation and value. You’ll work closely with senior partners across Nectar360 and Sainsbury’s/Argos (including Product & Technology) to input into AdTech strategy and the roadmap for evolving our digital media model, ensuring we stay ahead of the competition and deliver our digital growth ambitions. You’ll also act as a visible ambassador for Nectar360 — communicating our proposition with clarity at senior levels, influencing investment, and representing the business in broader forums such as industry events.

You’re a commercially minded, data‑driven digital leader who combines strategic thinking with a strong delivery instinct. You’re comfortable using data to shape plans, solve complex problems across multiple stakeholders, and champion the value of retail media to both internal and external audiences. You bring a strong grasp of ecommerce, retail media and customer behaviour — and you can translate that knowledge into practical propositions that drive results without compromising the customer experience. You’re also a relationship‑builder and influencer: credible with senior stakeholders, confident in navigating commercial and contractual conversations, and skilled at building long‑term partnerships across FMCG brands, agencies and wider industries. As a people leader, you enjoy developing others through coaching, performance management and clear prioritisation — and you can matrix‑manage effectively to deliver client objectives and revenue targets.

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable accountability for delivering and growing a £multi‑million revenue target or budget within a digital media, ecommerce media, or closely related commercial environment.
  • Proven ability to set and execute a data‑driven ecommerce/retail media strategy, including identifying new monetisation opportunities while protecting customer experience.
  • Evidence of leading senior stakeholder relationships (internal and external) to secure commitment, investment, and delivery against joint commercial plans.
  • Experience leading and developing teams (including coaching and clear goal setting) and governing prioritisation/workload to deliver agreed outcomes.
  • Ability to shape or influence AdTech / digital media roadmaps in partnership with Product & Technology and other cross‑functional teams to deliver growth objectives.
