Joining Sainsbury's as a Concept Architectural Designer means becoming part of a renowned brand with a commitment to creating exceptional physical retail environments. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by developing new store formats, contributing to the Macro Principles for Interior Architecture and Design, and enhancing the overall shopping experience.

As the Concept Architectural Designer you will support the concept design manager in developing new store formats and establishing Macro Principles for Interior Architecture and Design. Responsibilities include:

  • Work across all formats and fascias within the Sainsbury's brand, covering store approach, customer flow, layout and landscape of fixtures, and the visual appearance of walls, floors and ceilings.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and suppliers throughout the design process, ensuring effective communication, feedback and appraisal of output.
  • Develop design principles that enhance the shopping experience, delivering inviting and distinctive stores that are intuitive and easy to navigate.
  • Manage and develop the asset library for the design team.
  • Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and communicate weekly progress to the Concept Design Manager.
  • Achieve commercial success of physical retail design concepts and provide clear guidance to delivery teams, demonstrating depth of knowledge of retail and architectural design trends and best practices.

You are a highly skilled professional with a proven track record in delivering successful physical retail environments. You bring expertise in retail and interior design trends, strong project management, excellent communication, creative vision, and technical knowledge of environmental design processes and construction methods.

Essential criteria:

  • Proven experience delivering physical retail environments from concept to execution.
  • Interior architectural design experience across store formats (layout, customer flow, fixtures, finishes).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement store design concepts and principles.
  • Experience managing or contributing to design guidelines / frameworks (e.g., macro principles).
