Leonardo UK is excited to be recruiting a Principal EMC Engineer for our Basildon site. This site-based role will undertake EMC specification, design, development and test work on various Air / Land and Sea projects at system and component level. The role also requires building and maintaining relationships with customers and suppliers to achieve cost effective and robust EMC solutions in various challenging environments. The Principal EMC Engineer will also be required to contribute to our UKAS test team and carry out EMC testing and EMC training of other engineers. Thus, experience of UKAS audits and looking after the day to day running and capability enhancement and maintenance of an EMC test facility is essential.
The successful applicant will be working in the ISP business unit’s Environmental test group as part of the Design Integrity Function under the Environmental Test Lab Manager.
Your impact
This role is to provide EMC / TEMPEST design, development and test support to projects; this includes the development of EMC / TEMPEST requirements and providing robust cost-effective solutions. Customer and supplier liaison is also key to ensure the minimisation of through life EMC cost while offering an innovative and robust solution to our customers’ needs. The production of EMC / TEMPEST documentation for projects will be necessary along with approving suppliers’ documentation and test results. EMC testing forms a major part of the role, both in house and at external EMC test house (possibly at remote locations). The successful applicant will support the Basildon test facility UKAS audit schedule and accreditation. Other duties include EMC test house and equipment maintenance duties.
Key Responsibility Areas
- Design for EMC & TEMPEST.
- Development of EMC & TEMPEST requirements from legislation and top-level system specifications.
- Production of EMC & TEMPEST Plans for complex systems and components.
- Supplier management for control of EMC design at sub-tier suppliers.
- In house EMC testing.
- External EMC and TEMPEST testing.
- Production of in-house test procedures and reports.
- Definition of test requirements.
- Provision of technical support for resolving EMC & TEMPEST issues.
- Representing the test facility at design reviews and phase reviews to provide specialist input.
- Supporting the test facility’s UKAS certification.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge
- Minimum of BEng. (Hons.) in a relevant subject or suitable other experience.
- Expert knowledge of commercial, defence, and aviation EMC test specifications, test procedures, and test set up.
- Expertise in EMC legislation, EMC requirement generation, customer EMC requirements analysis, system level EMC design, development and solution provision, EMC component selection, EMC testing, and TEMPEST testing.
