Our central London team is looking for talented and enthusiastic team members to perform analysis and assessment of space systems for our UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) customer. The role will suit recent STEM graduates, postgraduates, or those with relevant industry experience of space systems engineering who wish to apply their abilities in a technical analysis and systems assessment environment.

What You’ll do as a Defence Analytics Engineer:

  • Conduct analysis through the application of physical principles to real world problems, facilitated through in‑house software tools and databases, as well as standard industry applications such as STK and the development of ad‑hoc software, primarily in Python.
  • Engage regularly with both MOD and the wider customer base to keep them informed of key events and incorporate new information into team assessments.
  • Produce reports and briefings of your work and present them to MOD customers and the wider community within the UK and partner nations.
  • Provide critical outputs to MOD customers, often at very short notice.
  • Propose and implement improvements to tools and processes based on your developing experience and knowledge.
  • Seek co‑operative and collaborative approaches with our UK and multi‑national partners, identifying best practice.
  • Accept opportunities of travel for technical exchanges with our partners, as well as for exercise support & war‑games within the UK and abroad.

What you’ll bring:

  • A good understanding of scientific methods and their use through the application of fundamental physical principles.
  • A degree in a STEM subject and strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to apply these to real world problems in the space domain.
  • A good understanding of space technologies, such as orbital dynamics, spacecraft subsystems, space domain awareness and sensor/subsystem design & operation.
  • Experience of Python and Matlab would be beneficial.
  • Good interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration within an inter‑disciplinary team.
  • Ability to problem solve and self‑steer work to deadlines as necessary, sometimes at short notice.
  • Ability to communicate, both in writing and verbally, with audiences of differing technical backgrounds and seniority.
  • You will have, or be able to obtain, UK national security clearances appropriate for sensitive assessment work.

This is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn.

Security Clearance: This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for the Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
