- Network Engineer
- Clearance: High DV 'Developed Vetting'
You will provide a crucial role in Core Services, conducting complex fault rectification of incidents, supporting Problem Management, Continual Service Improvement (CSI), and occasional Change Request (CR) work on IT Systems supporting key National Security outputs.
3rd Line Network Engineers conduct reactive and proactive maintenance on High Side systems and may occasionally support lower classification systems.
They respond to escalations from 2nd Line Engineers and other Resolver Groups, performing advanced troubleshooting, diagnosing and rectifying issues as they arise.
They develop technical solutions to complex problems and liaise with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring issues are resolved within SLA levels and KPI targets are met.
Essential Requirements
Software Defined Networking experience with VMware NSX.
- Thorough and demonstrable understanding of Cisco Enterprise LAN environments at 3rd line support level, ideally CCNP and CCDP level.
- Focus on Secure LAN environments, including security boundaries and rulesets.
- Good understanding of WAN connectivity and routing protocols, and experience managing virtual and physical networking solutions.
- Hands‑on experience troubleshooting Layer 2/3 switching and routing.
- Hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting VPC, VDC, STP, BGP, OSPF and other key mainstream protocols.
- Hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting Sidewinders and ASAv firewalls on ISR, 6800, 3750, 3850 series platforms.
- Hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting Fortigate, Sonic Wall, Palo Alto, Force Point, ASAv and Juniper firewalls.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, independent and comfortable with autonomous working.
- Ability to tackle complex problems and incidents.
- Experience in ITIL ICT service delivery on critical infrastructure.
- Experience working under pressure to meet deadlines while handling multiple priorities.
- Experience in patch management including analysis and deployment.
- Key Duties
- System Support & Ticket Resolution – Utilise technical expertise to keep the Core Network estate online and running smoothly, ensuring timely incident handling in line with KPI/SLA.
- Problem Resolution – Work with other resolver groups, manufacturers, users and suppliers to perform root cause analysis and provide technical solutions to complex problems.
- Maintenance – Complete and record periodic maintenance of all systems, utilising Periodic Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and routine upgrading activities to stay ahead of obsolescence.
- Documentation – Maintain and create documentation of system configuration changes and accurately record work in SD+.
- Resource Movement – Assist in the configuration, installation and deployment of infrastructure components.
- Participation in Projects – Engage in infrastructure‑related projects and CRs, contributing to implementation build, testing phases.
