Database & Application Architect (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)
We're on a mission to close the world's tech skills gap.
We help organisations navigate the future of technology, combining human expertise, emerging tech and AI to deliver better outcomes, faster.
Since 2014, we've worked side-by-side with clients to solve complex challenges, build high-performing teams, and create lasting capability. As technology continues to evolve, we believe the most successful organisations will be those that combine the best of both: human ingenuity AND intelligent technology.
That belief is embedded in everything we do. We call it the genius of the AND: deep expertise AND practical delivery, innovation AND responsibility, ambitious work AND sustainable careers.
Through our Guide, Build and Equip approach, we help organisations embrace change, deliver meaningful impact, and develop the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly agentic world.
About the role
We're looking for an experienced Database & Application Architect to support a critical phase of a large-scale infrastructure and application migration programme.
You'll play a key role in ensuring the target environment is fully optimised ahead of a major monolithic application migration. Working closely with infrastructure, database and application teams, you'll review performance data from completed migration phases, validate production readiness, and ensure application dependencies and database replication are operating reliably before cutover.
This role requires someone who combines deep technical expertise with a methodical, evidence-led approach to identifying performance risks and ensuring operational stability across complex enterprise environments.
About you
- You care deeply about producing high-quality work that delivers real value.
- You're comfortable navigating ambiguity and solving complex technical challenges collaboratively.
- You bring strong technical expertise alongside a willingness to continuously learn.
- You communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- You're pragmatic, detail-oriented and outcome focused.
- You enjoy working across multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver complex programmes.
What you'll bring to the table
- Strong experience designing and optimising enterprise-scale database and application architectures.
- Experience reviewing database configurations to validate production parity and identify configuration drift.
- Proven ability to analyse application and infrastructure performance metrics, identifying latency, throughput and resource bottlenecks.
- Experience validating complex application dependency maps and ensuring successful migration readiness.
- Strong understanding of database replication technologies, synchronisation processes and data consistency across distributed environments.
- Experience validating high-volume data replication for business-critical applications.
- Knowledge of audit, governance and compliance considerations relating to database replication and data integrity.
- Ability to work across infrastructure, application, platform and delivery teams to coordinate technical readiness.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to root cause analysis.
- Experience supporting large-scale migration, transformation or modernisation programmes within enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Review Solaris and database configurations to ensure the target environment accurately reflects the current production estate.
- Analyse application performance and workload metrics from development and testing environments to identify unexpected latency trends or performance bottlenecks.
- Validate application dependency mappings to ensure all remaining monolithic workloads are fully understood and no active dependencies remain on on‑premise infrastructure prior to migration.
- Verify the stability, synchronisation and integrity of high‑volume database replication streams supporting business‑critical applications.
- Work with technical stakeholders to identify and mitigate migration risks before production cutover.
- Provide architectural guidance and recommendations to optimise application performance, resilience and operational readiness throughout the migration programme.
