TE Connectivity\’s Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD-driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control. They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They help Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling/products/prototypes. They also plan, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, help the supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and follow all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements, and customer requirements. This team is considered the global process leader for Automation and Assembly, and will report directly to the Sr Director of Manufacturing Engineering in Aerospace, Marine, and Defense Business Unit.
Responsibilities
- Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership in Automation & Assembly for the Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering teams as well as our Manufacturing Plants
- Process Leadership and Expertise: Serve as a process leader in automation, controls, vision, and semi-automation ensuring optimal performance for quality and output
- Operational Strategy and Organizational Development: Contribute to defining operational strategy and develop the organization in support of business strategy, managing complex organizations with multiple sub-functions.
- New Product Introduction (NPI): Lead the successful transfer of new products from Engineering to Manufacturing Operations, ensuring seamless integration of processes and systems.
- Optimize Time to Market for successful new product launches meeting customer targeted timelines.
- LEANPD Driven New Product Development: Play a pivotal role in LEANPD driven new product development projects, ensuring strong impact and adherence to Lean principles throughout the process.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Product Development Engineering, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and other departments to ensure alignment and effective communication.
- Interface Between Product Development and Manufacturing Engineering: Act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring effective communication and collaboration to optimize designs for manufacturability
- Process Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Tooling and Process Development: Design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, documenting all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems
- Excellence in Manufacturing Technologies: Drive for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods, striving to optimize processes for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Implementation of New Manufacturing Technologies: Strive to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control, enhancing overall manufacturing capabilities
- Technology Integration: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, and drive the adoption of innovative solutions to improve manufacturing capabilities.
- Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost, and cycle time, aligning with TEOA requirements and Best Demonstrated Practices (BDP’s).
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks in manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
- Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance: Maintain and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory agency requirements, ISO standards, and customer requirements, ensuring compliance across all manufacturing processes with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Resource Management: Manage resources effectively to meet production schedules and project deadlines, including personnel, equipment, and budget allocation
What your background should look like
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Controls/Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent with specialized experience in Automation & Assembly. Advanced degree a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience working within the Assembly/Automation discipline or environment.
- Advanced knowledge of vision, automation, controls, & fixture design are required.
- Experience working in a low volume, high mix environment is preferred.
- Experience with manufacturing of military/aerospace products is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a cross-functional team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels within and outside of the organization.
- GB or BB in Lean Design for Six Sigma preferred but not required.
- Capability to work in a fasted paced, dynamic global environment with multiple changing priorities.
- Proficient in MS Office Software such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge in statistical software packages such as JMP and Minitab desirable but not required.
- Sound project management skills.
- Ability to travel globally 25%-50% of the time.
