Job Title: Offshore Geophysicist – Geophysical Survey Vessel (Offshore Wind)

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Offshore Geophysicist to join a geophysical survey vessel supporting an offshore wind farm development. The role involves the acquisition, processing, and interpretation of marine geophysical data to support site characterisation and foundation design.

This position requires hands-on experience with offshore geophysical survey techniques, data quality control, and reporting, working closely with other survey and client representatives onboard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the acquisition and QC of geophysical survey data, ensuring data integrity and compliance with project specifications.
  • Operate and monitor geophysical equipment, including MBES, SSS, SBP, Magnetometer, and Seismic systems.
  • Perform real-time data validation and liaise with onboard personnel to optimise survey operations.
  • Conduct initial processing and interpretation of acquired data, identifying key geological and geohazard features.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and maintenance of geophysical survey equipment.
  • Collaborate with Client Representatives, Party Chiefs, and Survey Engineers to ensure efficient and high-quality data acquisition.
  • Contribute to daily reporting, ensuring accurate documentation of survey progress and technical findings.
  • Adhere to HSE policies and promote a strong safety culture onboard.

Requirements:

Experience: Minimum 3+ years in offshore geophysical surveys, preferably for offshore wind, oil & gas, or cable route surveys.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in geophysical data acquisition and processing software (e.g., Oasis Montaj, SonarWiz, QPS Qimera, Geotools, or equivalent).

Certifications: Valid offshore certifications, including:

  • BOSIET/FOET (with CA-EBS)
  • GWO (preferred but not essential)
  • Medical Certificate (OGUK or equivalent)
  • Seaman’s Book (if required for the region)
  • Equipment Knowledge: Hands-on experience with geophysical survey sensors, including multibeam echosounders, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers, and seismic systems.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.
