Health & Safety Manager Location: Borehamwood Type: Permanent Sector: Main Contractor – Landmark Projects (£50m–£150m) A leading main contractor, known for delivering landmark construction schemes ranging from £50m to £150m in value, is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. This role will be based out of Borehamwood, with responsibility across multiple major projects in the region. Key Responsibilities: Ensure that all sites remain in a safe and compliant condition at all times. Implement and enforce the company’s health and safety policy to prevent injury, ill health, damage and wastage. Maintain a thorough understanding of all statutory health and safety requirements affecting construction operations. Promote the company’s health and safety standards and ensure clear communication of policies to all employees. Conduct and record regular health and safety inspections across construction sites, providing detailed feedback to Site Managers, the HSQE Director and the Construction Director. Track and close out identified actions from previous reports within required timescales. Address and escalate instances of non-compliance with health and safety responsibilities. Support Project Managers with accident investigations and ensure timely and accurate close-out reporting. Oversee induction processes for all site operatives and subcontractors. Ensure welfare facilities and site setup arrangements meet all legal and operational requirements. Manage and monitor statutory health and safety notices across all sites. Ensure all permits to work are correctly completed and appropriate for the work undertaken. Oversee proper storage of COSHH-related items, ensuring no risk to health or the environment. Review and approve method statements and risk assessments to ensure suitability for the specific task. Ideal Candidate: NEBOSH qualified or equivalent in Health & Safety. Proven experience working for a main contractor across high-value construction projects. Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and construction best practices. Able to communicate clearly with all stakeholders from site operatives through to board-level.
