Role Description

Join a high-profile, multi-million-pound construction project. We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially astute Project Accountant with construction industry experience to support the financial operations of this complex build, ensuring compliance with HMRC’s Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), VAT compliance and contributing to the financial structuring of the project, including debt funding arrangements and monitoring project cash flows.

Who you are

  • ATT / ACA / ACCA / CIMA part-qualified or qualified by experience desirable
  • Proven experience in within the construction industry, ideally with hands on experience in CIS and VAT compliance.
  • Prior experience in a similar role, ideally on large-scale infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Experience working in a contracting or consultancy capacity is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication, (both written and verbal) and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with Oracle would be beneficial.

What the role includes

Compliance and Management

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of CIS compliance, including verification, tax deductions (including tax statements) and monthly returns.
  • Liaise with subcontractors to ensure accurate CIS documentation and timely payments.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HMRC regulations and implement changes as required.
  • Preparation of monthly VAT returns.

Project Accounting

  • Monitor project costs, budgets, and forecasts in collaboration with the commercial and project management teams.
  • Manage the project bank account and cashflows
  • Monitor and administer the project bank account and ensure monthly funding requirements of developer, project manager and council are met and in accordance with legal contracts and external financing requirements / covenants

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with internal teams (finance, legal, commercial) and external stakeholders (contractors, funders, HMRC)
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership
